Kristen Bell, Call Me or Kristin Bell is a Good Actress, so Why Does She Do Sh$#@tty Movies?

My first impression was just that she had really beady eyes. But apparently Kristin Bell has been on a whole lot of "hot girl" lists, so what do I know. It turns out, she IS funny, and she has good timing, and she's a really physical actress who isn't vain or self-conscious in her work. So why, for the love of Pete, would she do such crappy movies?! Is she not being offered good roles? Does she choose her own scripts and just have terrible judgment? I don't know how these Hollywood things work. BUT SOMEONE STOP HER with the role choices.

The truth is, she's got it good. Voiceover for Gossip Girl, Neutrogena commercials and probably a long career ahead of her. She's doing things right. But it's clear she wants to get established in movies because... she keeps doing terrible ones, perhaps hoping THIS one will be it. So far - no.

IMDB says she has several projects coming up. So... she's working. That's good. I'll be interested to see what she's in. Because I watched When in Rome. And I watched You Again. And they are both just bad.

Of course, part of this is just my irritation at seeing such bad writing with money behind it. But also, I really liked Kristin Bell in Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Couples Retreat. She is vulnerable and sweet, a little goofy but still really confident and sure of her body. I keep mentioning her body because if you watch You Again (don't) and also Couples Retreat, there are scenes where she nails it physically or just has to use her body in a way that makes it clear she should be doing physical comedy. In Couples Retreat, there's a scene where she is doing Yoga and you can tell the girl has DONE some Yoga.  She's in top form and (as in You Again) really has to fake being uncoordinated. But I like that about her. There's something about her ability to truly interact and be in the moment with other actors that comes through, no matter how terrible the script.

I'm really writing this as a shout out to the Universe and to Kristin Bell - HEY! I have a good script for you. Come ON. Whoever is talking you into these silly, awful representations of comedy, writing and love is a MORON. CALL ME KRISTIN. Even your boo, Dax Shepard, is taking some great risks (Parenthood on tv, The Freebie). Ask him to help you pick good material, PLEASE. Go all "Michelle Williams" on us and show us what you've got beyond your stupid, first television show. I think you've got it, Kristin Bell. But why oh why won't you let your light shine?!

As a side note, in You Again, Betty White has an AWFUL cameo as the (you guessed it) grandma. She was cute (read: written well) in the movie The Proposal, with Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds. But in You Again, it is just terrible. I am ALL FOR Betty White in anything, much like the rest of the world, but don't be condescending and create an ill-drawn, sort of senile, relevant only barely and at the last moment of the film role for her. It's insulting.
